Using Mortal Kombat 1 to help me understand how Wwise and Unreal Engine 4 works together

To help further my understanding of Wwise and how it works with Unreal Engine. I wanted to manipulate the in game sounds using Mortal Kombat 1 since the game uses Unreal Engine 4 and Wwise as its audio middleware. I also wanted to examine the game's sound files while adding different modifications to the character models in the game as a fun exercise.

I was using this guide (https://lnkd.in/ev5trSw5) to help me understand, change and apply the added changes that I have made to the game. I used reaper to help me sound design the sounds I wanted to replace while converting the sound files to WAV in order for Wwise to read the file and Wwise to convert them into Wem files so the game can read them from the UASSET and PAK files. Since I do not have the original Wwise project for the game, I had to play the game, examine the UASSET files to see where the sounds would be playing from and predict when the audio file cuts off during the cinematic so I could time where the audio file would end so that I could design the sounds around the time frame. Also listening to thousands of voice lines and in game sound effects to see which file number I needed to replace.

Researching about John Cena's internet fame, Breaking Bad, the Youtuber Maximilian Dood (https://lnkd.in/eUTnUNZt) I was able to get some cut some of the quotes, music and place them into the game. I also got a quote of Ryan Neal and saying one of Sub-Zero's lines and play them in game while fighting someone online.

Learnt a lot from this exercise and could apply them to future projects that I could be working on. 😁 Video link - https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7185588792458661888/
